Beautiful Moonbow Amid Hurricane Sandy

Amid the current destruction of hurricane Sandy many locations in the central United States are experiencing an amazing display of "Moonbow". This phenomena occurs when high levels of moisture reach Earth's upper atmosphere and freeze, reflecting light from the moon.

The skies above are being directly affected the the hurricane storm system, giving us an opportunity to have a rare, vivid look at this in conjunction with a full moon. Not clearly evident in the photo, the ring is vibrantly colored, displaying full spectrum color like a rainbow!!
